At dinner that night we kept asking one another, “Okay, we’re really going to do this?.” Yes we are and Hull #74 would soon be built to spec. For years, we had been on the hunt to find a boat that would suit our needs as a semi-retired, active couple who loves the responsiveness of a monohull, but prefers the stability of a catamaran. We continually discussed, prayed, thought about, prepared and planned what our cruising adventures might look like. To us the wait was a small sacrifice as we had many decisions and options to research, things to sort out at home and with our business, before launching our sailing dreams.
What an afternoon as we signed the contract to build our Outremer 51 – Hull #74. Exhilaration, anticipation, trepidation, and yes, we wouldn’t be completely honest if we didn’t add a little anxiety, the butterflies kind. Our estimated delivery date was July 2020…an almost two-year wait due to the growing popularity of this sturdy and beautiful blue water performance catamaran.
We welcomed the extra time and appreciated the patience, guidance and experience of our Yacht Broker, Pete McGonagle of Swiftsure Yachts Inc. in Seattle. He was instrumental in helping us process the pros and cons of the catamarans we were considering. An added benefit was that he was very familiar with Outremer, having brokered several transactions over the past few years. He continues to be invaluable through this journey.
